FRIDAY EVENING
All About I-Cord (more fun than it sounds) – Amy Detjen ($10) 
Limit: 25 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Beginner
So, you're thinking "how can somebody teach a class on knitting I-Cord, it's just a 3-stitch tube!" Well, if you don't know All About I-Cord, this is for you. You'll learn how to create an I-Cord border as you go, how to apply an I-Cord edge to something already knitted, and the wonderful I-Cord Bind-Off! We'll also discuss how to fix minor finishing problems using I-Cord.
Supplies Needed: (1) one ball of yarn; (2)needles (straight or circular) in size appropriate for your yarn.
Warping and Weaving on a Weave It Loom - Jane Grogan ($10)
Limit: 10 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: All skill levels welcome
Imagine weaving on a portable hand held loom with just several yards of yarn and a needle. Nothing is easier or more addictive than weaving small squares on a “pin loom.” Popular in the 40’s and 50’s, these looms are again capturing the hearts and imaginations of weavers of all ages. The most common size loom is 4 inches square, but other smaller and rectangular shapes are available. The technique is the same, regardless of the size. Participants will learn to wind the 3 layer warp on the pin loom and to do basic and pattern weaving.
Supplies Needed: (1) Pin loom - called Weave It, Weavette, or Multi Loom. Available at Susan’s Fiber Shop or by mail at www.hazelroselooms.com; (2) Scissors; (3) Tapestry needle; (4) Paper and pencil
Materials Fee: $3 for handouts and yarn for the class project.
Double Knitting Basics - Mary Jo Harris ($10)
Limit: 15 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Confident beginner. Knowledge of knitting in the round is helpful, but not required.
What is Double Knitting? Why would I want to double knit anything? Find out these answers and more while making a sampler headband. In this class you will learn the definition and explanation of double knitting, why double knitting is useful, where double knitting can be used, various double knitting techniques, and double knitting resources and project ideas.
Supplies Needed: (1) Two or more different colors of basic worsted weight yarn (no novelty yarns); (2)16 inch circular needles in a size appropriate for your yarn; (3) Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)
Fit to Flatter – Amy Herzog ($40)
Limit: 18 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Experience knitting sweaters from patterns; understanding of intermediate knitting terminology.
Ever wonder why some sweaters make you look like a supermodel and others make you look more like a hobbit? Have you ever knit a sweater that looked stunning on the page only to be disappointed when you wore it for the first time? In this class, you’ll get the tools you need to produce sweaters perfect for your figure every time you pick up the needles. Topics covered in class include:
- Standard body shapes, modifying figure factors, and why your shape matters way more than your size
- How clothing changes the appearance of the body’s shape and the many ways we can manipulate this for our benefit
- Types of sweater patterns that look best on each figure type, driven into reality by lots and lots of trying on samples
- Personalized shape analysis and detailed measurements for every student
- How to choose what size to knit, demystifying ease, and modifying existing patterns
- General sweater tips and tricks
- Student-brought questions and discussion topics
Supplies Needed: We take pictures of everyone’s shape during class, so please come wearing or willing to change into a tight-fitting top and relatively fitted well-fitted pants/skirt. Please also bring along a measuring tape, sweaters you’ve knit, patterns you’re interested in, and your adventurous inner knitter!
Mitered Corners in Cable – Elsebeth Lavold ($50)
Limit: 15 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Intermediate. Students should know how to do basic cabling.
Mitered corners can add interest to many projects. Knit a mitered corner in cable patterns and learn all you need to know to miter any cable patterns on your own.
Supplies Needed: Please bring a plain, light-colored wool yarn, DK to Aran weight (3-, 4-, or 5-ply) and suitable needles. A couple of double pointed needles, a darning or tapestry needle and a cable needle. Graph paper, pencil and eraser may be needed.
Entrelac Essentials - Elizabeth Prose ($10)
Limit: 15 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Basic knitting skills.
Entrelac is a form of modular directional knitting. It is sometimes referred to as “basket weave” because the knitted fabric looks like strips of knitting woven together. Entrelac is a series of triangles and left and right leaning rectangles worked one at a time, back and forth, in tiers. In this class you will learn basic entrelac construction and how to “knit back backwards.”
Supplies Needed: (1) Worsted or DK weight plain wool yarn; (2) Straight or circular needles in size appropriate for yarn; (3) Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, tape measure, tapestry needle, row counter, etc.)
“The Wave” Crohook Scarf - Liz Sutter ($10)
Limit: 15 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Beginner with knowledge of single crochet.
You will use a crohook (a crochet hook with a hook at both ends) and two colors of yarn to create this fun tube scarf. This pattern stitch for the double ended crohook came to me from Mary Lou Fisk through a mutual friend, Carol Ruplinger. We named the pattern ”The Wave” since it looks like cheering for the home team. The stitch is a blend of traditional and Tunisian crochet.
Supplies Needed: (1) Size G or H double ended crohook; (2) Two 100 gram skeins of worsted weight yarn; (3) Basic crochet/knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)
What a Knitter Can Do with a Crochet Hook - Sheryl Thies ($10)
Limit: 20 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Students should know how to work a crochet chain and single crochet.
Looking for an easier and faster way to finish your knitted pieces? A crochet hook in the hands of a knowledgeable knitter can make seaming, edging, and embellishing a breeze. Understand the basics and start achieving impressive results.
Supplies Needed: (1) Partial skeins of worsted weight yarn in various colors; (2) Size H/9 (5.5 mm) or J/10 (6 mm) crochet hook; (3) 2 knitted swatches worked in a smooth worsted weight yarn and appropriately sized needles
Homework:Knit 2 swatches according to following directions. Cast on 25 stitches. Knit 16 rows (8 ridges on RS of work). Work in stocking stitch until piece measure 10 inches. Bind off all stitches loosely.
Yoga for Knitters - April Wahl ($5)
Limit: 20 students Class Length: 1 hour
Experience Level: Beginner
This one hour beginning yoga class will help alleviate stiffness in the body from knitting activities, alleviating tension and stiffness in the hands, wrists, back, shoulders, neck, and trunk of the body.

25 Tricks of the Trade - Carol Anderson ($20)
Limit: 20 Students Class Length: 6 hours
Experience Level: Confident beginner
Carol Anderson shares techniques garnered from over 60 years of knitting experiences: teaching, attending workshops, designing, and pattern writing. In this class you will learn a variety of tips, including yarn joins, calculating gauge, two‑color yarn carries, row counting, cable tricks, tips for following Aran Isle patterns, and much more!
Supplies Needed: (1) Size 4 or 5 double point needles; (2) Small amount of light‑colored worsted weight yarn; (3) Calculator; (4) Scissors; (5) Tapestry needle
Knit Thrummed Mittens Top Down - Liz Sutter ($20)
Limit: 10 Students Class Length: 6 hours
Experience Level: Confident beginner
These super warm mittens will keep your hands warm in the coldest weather. Learn how to insert thrums (small pieces of roving) into your knitting to add warmth and color. We will start your mittens at the finger tips, knitting both mittens at the same time on one long circular. You will also learn how to insert the thumb after the mitten is complete. We won’t have time to complete the mittens but you will get to a point where you can comfortably finish them later.
Supplies Needed: (1) Sizes 6 and 8 40 inch circular needle (Addi Turbo or Lace needles are recommended); (2) One skein worsted weight yarn (100 grams/210 yards), split into two balls (3) Approximately one ounce of roving; (4) Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)
SATURDAY MORNING
Lace 101 – Amy Detjen ($10)
Limit: 25 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Confident beginner
Knitting lace is not actually difficult, but it doesn’t hurt to learn some useful tools for reading charts, keeping track of your stitch count, knowing which row comes next, and repairing minor lace errors. We’ll also discuss, but hope we never need, how to make major repairs to lace knitting.
Supplies Needed: (1) One ball of smooth, light colored sport or dk weight yarn (avoid navy or black); (2) needles (straight or circular) in size appropriate for your yarn. Use needles one or two sizes larger than you would use for Stockinette St.
Top Down Raglan Baby Cardigan Workshop - Susan B. Anderson ($10)
Limit: 20 Students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Advanced beginner
Join Susan to get a jump start on knitting a top down seamless baby cardigan. A basic baby cardigan pattern will be provided to fit sizes newborn to 2 years old. Students can choose the size they’d like to work on in the class. In addition to the basic pattern, many options are also provided in the pattern and will be discussed. Options for sleeves, a hood, different button bands, and closures are all included. During class the basic structure and top down raglan formula will be discussed as well as in class technique demonstrations for picking up stitches, whipping up button bands and buttonholes, starting and shaping the sleeves, and other tricks and tips for making the perfect baby cardigan will be shared! The class also includes a baby hat pattern so students can complete an adorable baby set after they leave the class.
Supplies Needed: (1) Set of 4 size 7 double pointed needles; (2) Size 7 24-inch circular needle; (3) 300 400 yards worsted weight yarn (300 yards for 0 3 and 6 12 months, 400 yards for 1 2 years); (4) Buttons (3/4 inch to 1 inch, 2 8 buttons depending on preference); (5) Matching thread and sewing needle; (6) Scrap yarn; (7) Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)
Simple Edges - Kathy Digman ($10)
Limit: 10 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Confident beginner
Learn two simple edges to use on necklines, vests, and cardigans. One edge can be used instead of single crochet. The other can take the hassle out of buttonhole placement.
Supplies Needed: (1)Knitted swatch; (2) Light colored yarn; (3) Knitting needles in size appropriate for yarn; (4) Crochet hook in size appropriate for yarn; (5) Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)
Homework: Knit 3 inch by 4 inch swatch in stockinette stitch using light colored yarn and needles in size appropriate for yarn. Bind off all stitches.
Two Color Brioche Stitch in the Round -Elizabeth Prose ($10)
Limit: 15 Students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: You should have an intermediate knowledge of knitting and have experience knitting in the round.
Brioche or Prime stitch is a wonderful reversible textured stitch that is a stretchy Eastern cousin of knit one, purl one rib. Some knitters always knit brioche stitch flat, however it is quite easy to knit brioche in the round. Come explore the beauty of knitting two color brioche stitch in the round.
Supplies Needed: (1)One 16‑inch circular needle in size appropriate for your yarn; (2)One skein worsted weight yarn in a dark color; (3)One skein worsted weight yarn in a light color. Please be sure to choose a light and dark yarn. If there is not enough contrast between the colors the stitch does not look as interesting.) (4)Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, tape measure, tapestry needle, row counter, etc.)
Top Down Bottom Up Reversible Hat - Britta Renstrom ($10)
Limit: 12 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Intermediate
This hat is reversible, two hats in one, knitted in one piece. The hat can be worn as a stockinette hat or as a hat with a beautiful lace pattern. Hat pattern will be provided in class.
Supplies Needed: (1)Set of 5 size 5 double pointed needles; (2)Size 5 16 inch circular needle; (3)Two 50 gram skeins each of sport weight yarn (Cascade 220 Sport recommended); (4)Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.).
Unspun Fun - Carol Rhoades ($10)
Limit: 15 Students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Confident beginner
This class is designed for knitters who want to use space dyed wool and wool blend rovings, tops, or silk handkerchiefs to knit lightweight and warm small clothing items, such as caps, mittens, scarves, baby bonnets, and socks. Using a selection of space dyed rovings slivers, tops, and silk hankies, we’ll practice drafting (drawing out) techniques to produce unspun “yarns” that can be used directly for knitting. Students will also learn how to prepare knittable rovings from washed fleece. After the basics, students will also learn how to control color changes, so that, for example, one could make a matching baby cap and sock set with similar stripe patterns. We’ll experiment with various fibers and fiber preparations to get a feel for which fibers and yarn diameters work for a range of projects and patterns.
Supplies Needed: (1) Assortment of knitting needles sizes 3 to 7; (2) a few 3x5 index cards for wrapping silk rovings; (3) Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)
Materials Fee: $5 for fiber packet.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON
String a Long Toy Workshop - Susan B. Anderson ($10)
Limit: 20 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Knitter should be proficient at knitting in the round on double pointed needles and basic increases and decreases.
Join Susan in making an adorable seamless toy. The toys offered in this class are knit in one piece from the bottom up, so that means no stitching together of parts at the end. Students will get the pattern for Susan’s String a Long toys that include mice, frogs, and monkeys! These toys can be knit individually or they can be made with a loop on one appendage that is then attached to the next String a Long character. There will be in class demonstrations of toy knitting techniques, embroidering faces, stuffing advice, and much more.
Supplies Needed: (1)Set of 4 size 5 double pointed needles; (2)Approximately 100 yards of worsted weight yarn in color or colors of your choice; (3)Fiberfill (small amount); (4)Black embroidery floss; (5)Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)
Fixing Knitting Errors - Liz Avery ($10)

Experience Level: Confident beginner
We all make mistakes, but ripping out your knitting is not your only option. Learn to fix basic knitting errors as you learn about stockinette and garter stitch fabric construction. We’ll discuss troubleshooting and problem solving as we learn to repair knitting by the row and by the column to get your knitting back on track.
Supplies Needed: (1)3‑inch by 3‑inch swatch knitted in smooth, light colored worsted or bulky weight yarn; (2)Crochet hook in size appropriate for yarn; (3)Circular knitting needle in size appropriate for yarn; (4) Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)
Homework: Knit 3‑inch by 3‑inch swatch in half stockinette stitch and half garter stitch using smooth, light colored yarn and needles in size appropriate for yarn. Stitches should be live (not bound off) on a circular needle. Swatch pattern: Row 1: Knit; Row 2: Knit half the stitches, purl half the stitches

Knitting a Rainbow: Making Magic with Handpainted Yarns - Christina Kantor ($10)

Multiple techniques for creating beautiful accessories and garments with hand painted yarns will be presented, with many samples to view. I have collected and swatched dozens of techniques and stitch patterns, and you get to learn from my years of research, experimentation, and study with many experts. Go ahead and buy those luscious skeins, you will never be disappointed again.
Supplies Needed: (1)Hand painted or variegated yarns (wound into a ball); (2)Knitting needle in size appropriate for yarn; (3) Notepad or journal for notes; (4) Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)

Basic Viking Knits – Elsebeth Lavold ($50)

Discover the wonderful world of Viking cables, a 1000-year-old treasure of patterns re-discovered in a new technique. Join Elsebeth as she focuses on the technical aspects of knitting Viking Patterns. Learn how to cable without a cable needle. Analyze a simple Viking Interlace ornament. This class aims to give you confidence in reading charts, knitting Viking (and other) cable patterns, and get you started on the road to creating your own variations.
Supplies Needed: Please bring a plain, light-colored wool yarn, DK to Aran weight (3-, 4-, or 5-ply) and suitable needles. A couple of double pointed needles, a darning or tapestry needle and a cable needle. Graph paper, pencil and eraser may be needed.
Scarf with Two-Sided Pattern – Britta Renstrom ($10)
Limit: 12 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Intermediate
This scarf is knitted with a unique pattern that gives the scarf a different look on each side, one side with a “tree-like” design, the other side with a nice wavy look. The pattern is much easier than it looks (no cable needles). Pattern will be provided.
Supplies Needed: (1)Size 3 or Size 7 needles (depending on yarn used); (2)Fingering weight or worsted weight yarn (fingering weight makes a 5.5-inch scarf, worsted a 7.5-inch scarf); (3)Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)
Twists, Rolls, and Braids: Creative Knitted Edgings - Carol Rhoades ($10)
Limit: 15 students Class Length: 3 hours
Experience Level: Confident beginner
Not bread design, but an edgy knitting class. If you are tired of ribbing on the edges of all your knitted garments, then this class is for you. In this class, you’ll learn several ways to decorate the edges of cuffs, mittens, socks, caps, etc. You’ll make a 3‑color twisted garter stitch edge, single and multiple rolled edges, and variations on 2‑color braids. We’ll finish with a discussion of how to use these edges to begin and finish garments.
Supplies Needed: (1)Sport or DK weight in at least 3 contrasting colors (1 skein of light main color and small amounts of contrast colors); (2) Set of 4‑5 double pointed needles, 2 circulars, or long Magic Loop circular needles in size appropriate for yarn; (3)Basic knitting tools (paper, pen, scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, etc.)
Materials Fee: $3 for handouts.
