2017-2018 Bohus KAL (Knit-A-Long)

Mark your calendars for the KAL kickoff meeting on September 24, 2:00-4:00PM at the Fitchburg Library. More details will be available soon. Meanwhile, start shopping for a kit! If you have any questions about choosing or ordering a kit, please email me at KAL@madisonknittersguild.com.

This year’s Knit-Along (KAL) theme is Bohus knitting. Bohus designs are known for their finely knit, intricate, and beautiful color work. While the Bohus style is best known for the circular yoke sweater, there are also patterns for set-in sleeve sweaters, jackets, hats, scarves, mittens, and wristers. Yarns are either fine wool or an angora/wool blend in a rich color palette. There is a Bohus pattern to meet anyone’s color preference, style, or desired project size. The patterns are knit at a fine gauge, about 8.5 stitches per inch for the angora-blend yoke sweaters and 7.5 stitches per inch for the all-wool sweaters. The color patterns are stranded, differing from traditional Fair Isle in that some rows have more than two colors and contain purl stitches on the right side. The purl stitches pull color from other rows and add to the complexity and subtlety of the appearance of the color work.
