Description: Broomstick Lace is in revival mode! We will learn to start the project, a sampler scarf, with foundation chain, onto the basic “peacock” eye stitch, and then several variations, each separated by crochet or knit options. Yes, broomstick lace plays nice with knit, crochet, tatting and edgings for woven fabric. In class we will work on a piece that can be an eyeglass case, a cowl, a scarf or the start of something much larger.

Skill Level: Must be able to chain and understand basic crochet stitches such as single and double crochet. If you opt for some sections to be knit, must be able to knit and purl.

Homework: None

Tools Needed:

Sport weight yarn, cotton works and linen well in this technique

Crochet hook, a range of sizes to match yarn, 4.5mm to 6.5mm

Large knitting needle. The larger the size, the bigger the lace sections, suggestions 10.5 all the way to 50mm! If you have several large needles, why not change the size of the needle for each section? (Only a single needle is needed). Circulars work well too!

If you opt to do the sections between the lace in knitting, bring a pair of size 5-6 needles

Scissors

Pencil/pen to take notes

Stitch markers

Materials Fee: None
