Description:
Question: When is a cast-on not the beginning of a project?
Answer: When a provisional cast on is used.
A provisional cast-on is a temporary cast-on that will eventually be removed to release live stitches so knitting can continue is the opposite direct of the original knitting. The reason(s) for using a provisional cast-on may vary from project to project but having this handy skill in your kitting repertoire can give you knitting options not otherwise available with a normal cast-on.
In class you will learn several ways to cast-on provisionally. From there we will consider when, where, why, and in what circumstances it might be beneficial to use a provisional cast on.
