Theme: Ring Around the Collar

This event is a yarn exchange, where participants donate 200-300 grams of yarn (DK, Worsted, or Aran weight) for another knitter to transform into an accessory that is worn around the neck.  For example:  cowl, dickie, scarf or shawl.  In turn, you will receive yarn to create an accessory for another MKG member who donates yarn for this event.  You can knit, crochet, weave... as long as you consider any preferences your partner may have specified.

All experience levels are welcome!

There are two versions of the exchange (in-person or virtual/remote)

1.  In-Person Brown Bag Exchange at the October 13 MKG meeting at Madison College (outside of Room D1630).

  • Participants bring 200-300 grams of DK, Worsted or Aran weight yarn which is set onto a table out of sight. The yarn should be labelled with information on weight, fiber content, and potential household allergens it has been exposed to.  The yarn will be accompanied with information you've shared on your registration about allergens, considerations and preferences for the finished project.
  • Participants will take turns selecting a yarn to work with, based on a lottery system to determine the order of selection.  Or, participants can request to have a yarn assigned to them blindly.  They take away the yarn in a brown paper bag along with information shared by their partner.
  • Registration online is preferred and includes the opportunity to indicate allergies, head circumference measurement (if needed), and considerations or preferences.  Online registration closes on Sunday, October 12.  Registration is available In-Person at the Hospitality Table until 6:30 pm on Monday, October 13.
  • Participants knit something out of the yarn in the bag over the next five months.  Finished projects are exchanged before the March 9 Brown Bag Exchange at Madison College.  They are then shown to other guild members during Show and Tell at that meeting.

2.  Virtual/Remote Brown Bag Exchange will occur via mail only if there are enough participants. Registration is online-only.  Participants choose 200-300 grams of yarn from their own supplies.  Participants will be matched with a Partner from a selection of other virtual/remote participants, taking into consideration preferences and allergies noted on their registration form.  Participants create neck accessories over the next five months, and finished objects are mailed to partners, to be received by March 9, 2026.
