Speaker: Amanda Langer Steel & Stitches: An Art Practice Sculpted with Metal and Yarn Amanda Langer is a 3D mixed media artist working primarily in steel and fiber. In this presentation for the Madison Knitter’s Guild, she will bring the audience along with her on her journey from a rural farm kid to an ecological restoration professional to an artist who both welds and knits. Amanda will discuss the influences from her life that shape the conceptual foundation of her work and share what she hopes her work accomplishes outside of her studio. She will also get into the nitty-gritty of her practice, and will describe in detail the processes she uses to incorporate knitting and crochet work with the steel in her sculptures and wall pieces. Amanda looks forward to sharing her work and practice with other knitting and fiber enthusiasts.
