Class Title: Lace Techniques  (Master Class)

Instructor: Shirley Paden

Overall Skill Category: Intermediate

 Class Description:  Beginning with a basic review of the lace structure, in this class students will learn to knit, shape and chart the various types of lace. They will knit sample swatches of both single and double-sided lace patterns and lace borders.  They will work through drawing a chart and planning armhole and neckline shaping as well as shaping within a pattern stitch.

Pre-Class Assignment: Read and print the Shape of Lace Part 1 and Part 2 originally featured in the winter 2007/’08 and the S/S ’08 issues of Vogue Knitting.

Follow the instructions and knit the swatches in the first article.  The articles and their accompanying lace charts are posted in a PDF format and can be downloaded.  The web address is: http://www.shirleypaden.com  Note: Bring the article and the swatches to class. 

Working Materials to Bring to Class: Lace (fingering) weight or Fine (Sport) weight yarn as well as one ball of worsted weight yarn and knitting utensils including appropriately sized needles for the yarn, cable needle, markers, scissors, etc.  For charting bring 2 pencils with erasers.

Prerequisite:  A basic knowledge of knitting and reading a chart.
